March is here! We are getting closer and closer to our 2025 season. I am excited to share with you a lot of things we have going on between now and Opening Weekend!
We are still taking registration for our March Break Camp. Boys and Girls are welcome! We are running from Monday, March 10 to Friday, March 14, from 9 AM to 4 PM at the TurfHouse. The cost for the week is $175, which includes a pizza lunch on Friday. Early drop-off and late pick-up options are available for an additional $25. We welcome children ages 4 to 13, but spots are limited, so register soon through the KMGSA Website!
Softball Ontario has announced their first YOUTH CLINIC for umpires, and the first one is in STRATFORD in April. They will be announcing more clinics – they usually run one in Baden. Here at KMGSA, we will reimburse the registration for the YOUTH CLINIC once an umpire has officiated 10 House League Games. So, if you are between the ages of 13 and 18, this is a great way to make money with a job that works around your softball schedule. Register at Softball Ontario, and then when you get your number, register at www.kmgsa.com to Umpire this season.
A great way to stay up to date is to follow our Instagram @kmgsasoftball or our Facebook page Kitchener Minor Girls Softball. These sources will keep you up to date with new announcements and you will get to follow all our Players as the season evolves. We currently have 714 followers, and if you have something to post.. send it to our Social Media guru Sara at sarabanic01@gmail.com
This is an intro program to let girls try Softball and see if they like it. We have coaches ready to help them and share their love of the game. The Intro program will run from March 17 to April 28 for kids 10 and under on Mondays, and for kids 11-13 on Wednesdays, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at Meadowlane Public School in Kitchener. No pre-registration is required—just come by!
April 27 is Home Run Derby day. We are hosting a Home Run Derby at the Turfhouse on April 27 and you could win prizes for knocking it out of our virtual park! You register at www.KMGSA.com and we will pool you with players your age to see who is our Derby Winner. It is only $10 to register, and we will have KMGSA swag available for order. Bring your kids, and let them swing away!
We are going to host a coaching clinic for all our House League and Select Coaches, and any players who would like to learn about coaching. The tentative date is Sunday May 4 – more info to follow in April!
We are proud to share that two of our award winning teams from last year are being recognized at the Kitchener Athletic Awards Banquet at Bingeman’s March 18. Our U13 Black team from last year, lead by Coach Mitch Sanche won their division at Provincials earning them recognition by the City of Kitchener.
Also being recognized are the 2024 Eastern Canadian Champions; the U17 Black Klassics (2024) lead by Coach Ryan Johnston and Asst Coach Jade Pathammavong. The U17 Black team brought home Gold from Eastern Canadians and made us all proud. These amazing players and their coaches are being honoured on March 18 for their amazing successes in the 2024 season.
We are going to be collecting all your gently used equipment at the Home Run Derby and Photo Day. Please bring all those gloves, bats, helmets and Catchers Gear to the Turfhouse on those weekends and we will give your old equipment a 2nd life with a young player looking for gear at our Intro to Softball Program. Any equipment that we can’t use, we will share with the Optimist Club’s local league, and the local Church leagues so that equipment that is taking up space in your garage, or your basement will get a new chance to be useful.
Cages are still available for Klassics who have the Drop In program Mon to Fri from 3 to 6 and Sunday evenings. Cages are available for rent for everyone for softball for $20/50 minutes. Go to www.kmgsa.com to book a cage. Bring a coach. Bring a Trainer. Or Bring a friend!
